Prerequisites

You must have access to VMware vCenter.

Overview

The error message "Failed to connect to VMware management API" indicates that there was a problem establishing a connection between the client and the VMware management API. This error can occur in various situations, and it typically suggests an issue with the network connectivity or the configuration of the VMware environment.

The default VMware management API (HTTPS) port may be changed from 443.  Here are the steps to identify the new port:

  1. Open the vSphere Web Client and navigate to the VMware vCenter Server instance

  2. Select the Configure tab

  3. Under Settings, select Advanced Settings

  4. The VMware management API port is displayed in Advanced vCenter Server Settings

When a non-default VMware management API port is used, OneIQ Pulse will display the following error message:

Unexpected error occurred when accessing VMware service. Failed to connect to VMware management API at 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' on port 'YYY'. Port is not accessible.→ Failed to connect to VMware management API at 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' on port 'YYY'. Port is not accessible.

Solution

To resolve this issue, specify the custom port in OneIQ Pulse for the VMware endpoint:
