Prerequisites

You must have access to Windows Server where OneIQ Pulse is installed.

Overview

The error message "ESXi server with address is managed by VMware vCenter and cannot be monitored directly" typically occurs when attempting to monitor an ESXi server that is already being managed by a VMware vCenter Server.

In VMware's infrastructure, vCenter Server is a centralized management platform that allows administrators to manage multiple ESXi hosts and virtual machines. When an ESXi server is added to a vCenter Server, it is essentially placed under the management and control of the vCenter Server. As a result, direct monitoring of the ESXi server becomes restricted or disabled.

This restriction ensures proper management and control of the ESXi server through the vCenter Server, which provides advanced features and capabilities for centralized administration, monitoring, and resource allocation.

Troubleshooting

If VMware vCenter is present, it has to be discovered instead of individual VMware ESXi hosts. If you see the following error message

  1. Remove the ESXi server from monitoring and add VMware vCenter

  2. If an issue occurs again, run the Get-ManagementIps script and provide results to OneIQ Support.

Usage: Get-ManagementIps.ps1 -Address 'vcenter.lab.com'
